Web Design Logos
|
|
One of the biggest hurdles to overcome for a new website or a business that is building an image around a website is to come up with a decent logo. A logo is more than just a piece of clipart with a fancy font--the logo should express the nature of the business in a manner that is both professional and memorable. A recognizable logo can take a business a lot further than an out-of-the-box canned logo that is created from a simple Photoshop filter or a plain image.
Now having said that, logos are all about branding as well, and while many logos of large corporations are simple in design, they are nonetheless effective and match the company's brand. Integrating and incorporating logos into the traditional business model, as well as a website is a complex study in design, aesthetics, and human nature. But a web designer should take careful consideration before designing a logo that is whimsical, whereas the business is serious and professional, or something too stuffy when the overall theme is more casual.
If you have the budget, it never hurts to get logo design interpretations from professional logo designers, because just because someone is good with Photoshop, or they are a great artist, it doesn't necessarily translate to being a great "logo" designer. Logo designs can be an important step in the success of businesses (and websites), and so, if you can afford it, work with a logo professional who can incorporate colour, design, and other elements of a business in order to create a look and feel that can be blended with the business website, as well as the overall theme of the company.

It's impossible to design a good website without being able to look at the finished product. sure there are people so talented they can code an entire site without viewing it, but honestly, you need some WYSIWYG in order to get the full visual picture, and even if we're not all artists, a picture is worth a thousand lines of code.
Unless I have an extra monitor to view my progress, I always find that it's easier to print out a copy of a front page to use as an eyeball. But when you're working on so many pages, printing them all out doesn't seem like a viable method, especially when you consider that inkjet printers don't print forever, and sooner or later (usually sooner), you have to replace the ink cartridges. |

After thinking about it for a long time, you're finally ready to build your own website. But how do you proceed with designing a website--a quality website that you will be proud of, and your visitors will be pleased with? What sort of graphics are you going to use? What colour schemes are you going to apply? What type of fonts and CSS styling will you integrate? Are you going to build the website from scratch, or are you going to use a reliable content management system (CMS)?
You thought it was going to be simple, but really, there are a lot of questions to be answered. |

In just over a decade, the Web has evolved from an experimental tool for a limited community of technically inclined people into a day-to-day necessity for millions upon millions of users. Today's Web designers must consider not only the content needs of the sites they create, but also the wide range of additional needs their users may have: for example, those with physical or cognitive disabilities, those with slow modems or small screens, and those with limited education or familiarity with the Web. Bestselling author Sarah Horton argues that simply meeting the official standards and guidelines for Web accessibility is not enough. Her goal is universal usability, and in Access by Design: A Guide to Universal Usability for Web Designers, Sarah describes a design methodology that addresses accessibility requirements but then goes beyond. As a result, designers learn how to optimize page designs to work more effectively for more users, disabled or not. Working through each of the main functional features of Web sites, she provides clear principles for using HTML and CSS to deal with elements such as text, forms, images, and tables, illustrating each with an example drawn from the real world. Through these guidelines, Sarah makes a convincing case that good design principles benefit all users of the Web. In this book you will find: - Clear principles for using HTML and CSS to design functional and accessible Web sites - Best practices for each of the main elements of Web pages--text, forms, images, tables, frames, links, interactivity, and page layout - Seasoned advice for using style sheets that provide flexibility to both designer and user without compromisingusability - illustrations of actual Web sites, from which designers can model their own pages - Instructions for providing keyboard accessibility, flexible layouts, and user-controlled environments - Practical tips on markup, and resources
