Designing Websites

Web design and web development for beginner and professional web designers

The Importance Of Designing Website Logos

One of the biggest hurdles to overcome for a new website or a business that is building an image around a website is to come up with a decent logo. A logo is more than just a piece of clipart with a fancy font--the logo should express the nature of the business in a manner that is both professional and memorable. A recognizable logo can take a business a lot further than an out-of-the-box canned logo that is created from a simple Photoshop filter or a plain image.

Now having said that, logos are all about branding as well, and while many logos of large corporations are simple in design, they are nonetheless effective and match the company's brand. Integrating and incorporating logos into the traditional business model, as well as a website is a complex study in design, aesthetics, and human nature. But a web designer should take careful consideration before designing a logo that is whimsical, whereas the business is serious and professional, or something too stuffy when the overall theme is more casual.

If you have the budget, it never hurts to get logo design interpretations from professional logo designers, because just because someone is good with Photoshop, or they are a great artist, it doesn't necessarily translate to being a great "logo" designer. Logo designs can be an important step in the success of businesses (and websites), and so, if you can afford it, work with a logo professional who can incorporate colour, design, and other elements of a business in order to create a look and feel that can be blended with the business website, as well as the overall theme of the company.

If you're going to take on the task of designing your own logo, try approaching the design from several different angles, always accept criticism and suggestions from others, and take as much information as possible into consideration when you attempt your designs. Remember what the logo is representing, and don't forget to create something that is eye-catching, as well as promoting the best components of the business, whatever you as a web designer and web artist feel that should be.
